the Indian Giver
The Indian Giver responds to (mis)representations of Native culture and puts a playful spin on the offensive term. An Indian giver is “a person who gives a gift and then takes it back.” Because the majority of the representations found inside the claw machine were placed on American Indians by a predominantly white culture I invite the viewer to take them back and let Natives decide how to represent themselves.
