After 10 years of operation, IndianOrNot.com has been retired.

IndianOrNot.com was a website modeled after HotOrNot.com and other rating sites popular in the early 2000’s. It asks the viewer to rate a persons Indianness on a scale of 1 to 10 considering only their physical appearance and visual signifiers. This often led to stereotypical representations being ranked higher. Within this awkward interactive space that required the viewer to judge others, I hoped that they would find the exercise problematic and reconsider their own prejudices of the idealized Native American image.
